Good news for 90s kids. Thanks to the Walt Disney Company’s CEO, Robert Iger, movies from the 1990s and early 2000s will be getting reboots/re-imagined adaptations. That includes holiday movies like Home Alone and fan favorites like Night at the Museum. These films will be exclusive additions to Disney’s streaming platform, Disney Plus, which premieres later in 2019. What movies will be getting remakes? What are Disney fans saying about these upcoming flicks? Learn more about it here.
Home Alone
One of the most beloved Christmas movies of all time, Home Alone, tells the story of Kevin McCallister whose parents accidentally leave behind as they leave for Paris. This movie was originally distributed by 20th Century Fox, but since Disney acquired Fox, the company is remaking and rebooting the film for their streaming service.
“The Home Alone remake is going to be a 1-minute short film. The parents realize they left their kid home alone and then call him on this cell phone and find out he is fine,” said one Twitter user.
“Home Alone, which I don’t think should be remade, would not be the same unless based in the 90s. Kevin could literally get anything to the house delivered, charge to his parents card, and the parents could face time him to check on him. The premise doesn’t work today. Leave it be,” said another Twitter user.
Night at the Museum

History truly comes alive in these movies.Night at the Museum tells the story of a father in between jobs who lands a position as a night guard at the Museum of Natural History. What happens after that is nothing short of magical.
Released in 2006, th is movie earned a few sequels, including Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian. Night at the Museum was also produced by 20th Century Fox, making it the current property of the Walt Disney Company.
Cheaper by the Dozen
This movie had a cast of beloved actors, including Steve Martin, Hilary Duff, and Alyson Stoner. They created a sequel featuring actors like Taylor Lautner and built a giant, dysfunctional, loving family on the silver screen. According to Robert Iger, this movie will also get a reboot for Disney’s streaming service.
“Why would anyone want a Cheaper by the Dozen remake when the one with Hilary Duff is superior,” said one Twitter user.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Oh, Greg Heffley. No matter how hard he tries, things never quite go his way. It could be his older brother Rodrick, his younger brother Manny, or his parents. No matter how hard he tries, someone is always standing between Greg and his popularity. Even though this movie earned a few sequels, this Disney Plus reboot will be Diary of a Wimpy Kid’s first remake.
“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Juuls,” joked one Twitter user.
Disney’s streaming service, Disney Plus, launches on November 12, 2019, in the United States.
